St. Mary Outreach Program and Father Dan Hunger Center

posted May 2, 2017, 1:38 PM by Gary Pecherkiewicz

Feed the hungry
There is an increase in the number of people requesting housing and utility assistance. Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners we are able to help in most situations. Some, however, are beyond our means. At these times it’s increasingly important to have the food pantry as a resource. Thank you again for supporting our food pantry. Our next food collection at Mass will be during the weekend of May 20th-21st. The members of our community visiting the food pantry are extremely grateful for everything they receive. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity please contact Bob at the rectory.

We will be having a meeting this week to continue setting up the hunger center. Ideally the hunger center will welcome people from all faiths and operate as its own entity, located in the library building at the church. A kitchen is being installed and the framework for the hunger center is being sorted out. We are grateful for your support. Look for more information in next week’s bulletin including an update on when the hunger center will start, how you can participate, community involvement, and fundraising efforts. Thank you again for all you do to keep Father Dan’s vision for the community strong.

Bluegrass Music - Saturday, May 13

posted May 2, 2017, 1:33 PM by Gary Pecherkiewicz

Bluegrass music will be the featured theme at the 4:30 mass on Saturday, May 13th.  Joining our guitar group will be "Banjo" Jim and Mike Scott (upright bass) of the Eddy Street Geezers; dobro player, Bruce Richards; and introducing Mike O’Neill on fiddle.  This will be an unforgettable event as we experience this happy, joyous and free willed music of our near South.  Come at 4:10 for a prelude of old time favorites, and invite friends and family members to hear and enjoy this arrangement of stringed instruments.  This is part of a series of monthly themed music at 4:30 masses that Fr. Dan encouraged for the enjoyment of many types of music.

Dispensation from Lenten Abstinence on Friday, March 17, 2017

posted Mar 8, 2017, 6:58 AM by Gary Pecherkiewicz

Out of pastoral solicitude, Bishop Daniel Thomas has formally dispensed the faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland from the obligation to abstain from meat on the Memorial of Saint Patrick, which will be observed this year on Friday, March 17. Those who choose to partake of meat on that day are encouraged to undertake another penance that day in the form of a corporal or spiritual work of mercy. In this way, a faithful Catholic still keeps the penitential spirit of a Friday in Lent and unites oneself more closely with the suffering Christ and His Church.
